{"id":19199,"date":"2020-05-13T11:13:42","date_gmt":"2020-05-13T09:13:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/traffic-jams-are-back-on-the-roads\/"},"modified":"2020-05-13T11:13:42","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T09:13:42","slug":"traffic-jams-are-back-on-the-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/en\/traffic-jams-are-back-on-the-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"Traffic Jams are Back on the Roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Traffic Jams are Back on the Roads<\/h4>\n<p>Is the return of traffic jams on the roads good news?<br \/>\nYes.<br \/>\nYou may remember that returning to the city after a weekend often meant being stuck <a href=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/ooh-w-polsce\/ruch-samochodowy-wraca-na-trasy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in traffic on Sunday evening<\/a>. But this past weekend showed that we're returning to normality, even if we define it in a peculiar way. Here's how the momentary traffic flow looked on Warsaw's entry roads on Sunday, May 10th at 20:36:   <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12736 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/1.jpg\" alt=\"traffic intensity \" width=\"853\" height=\"679\"><\/p>\n<p>Have we reached last year's levels yet? Not quite \u2013 but I'll show through several examples how close we are to reaching the traffic intensity levels of 2019 and what the trend looks like.<br \/>\nFrom the charts discussed below, we can draw the following conclusions about changes in traffic intensity between major Polish cities: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Restrictions caused significant drops in traffic intensity. The decreases ranged from 44% to 52%. <\/li>\n<li>Traffic intensity has been steadily increasing since Easter.<\/li>\n<li>In the last measurement week, traffic intensity reached between 74% and 89% of 2019 levels.<\/li>\n<li>When comparing data from main national roads in Poland with all national roads, we can say that the decreases on main roads were the smallest, except for sections near border crossings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Analysis of Traffic from Six Measurement Stations<\/h4>\n<p>For the analysis, I selected data from six measurement stations located on Poland's main national roads.<br \/>\nThe data comes from the periods March 1 - May 11, 2020, and March 1 - May 13, 2019. At the same time, let's remember that:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>weekdays don't align with calendar dates; in 2019 \u2013 March 1st fell on Friday, in 2020 on Sunday;<\/li>\n<li>Easter in 2020 fell on April 12-13; in 2019 \u2013 April 21-22,<\/li>\n<li>in 2020, the May holiday weekend was exceptionally short: May 1st \u2013 Friday, May 3rd Sunday \u2013 3 days total; in 2019: May 1st - Wednesday, May 3rd - Friday \u2013 9 days total,<\/li>\n<li>there are changes in traffic composition (proportions of passenger cars, trucks, etc.),<\/li>\n<li>weekly traffic fluctuations are changing (during pandemic restrictions, weekend traffic was significantly lower than in the same period last year),<\/li>\n<li>the nature of traffic is changing (economic, tourist-recreational),<\/li>\n<li>there's different weather, changes in road infrastructure, international traffic restrictions, changes in annual ADT, no events, trade fairs, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12738 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2.png\" alt=\"traffic measurement points\" width=\"526\" height=\"490\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Daily and Weekly Traffic Changes<\/h4>\n<p>For each measurement point, I present two charts.<br \/>\nThe first compares the ADT (Average Daily Traffic) coefficient from March 1, 2020, to March 1, 2019.<br \/>\nThe second chart compares traffic intensity in corresponding weeks of 2020 and 2019, starting from week 10 of 2020 (Monday March 2 \u2013 Sunday March 8) and its corresponding week in 2019 (Monday March 4 \u2013 Sunday March 10).<\/p>\n<p>Gdynia \u2013 Katowice and measurement station 22611 on the Tri-City bypass, road S6:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12765 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/22611-dz-1024x419.png\" alt=\"daily traffic\" width=\"1024\" height=\"419\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12767 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/22611t-1024x419.png\" alt=\"weekly traffic \" width=\"1024\" height=\"419\"><\/p>\n<p>Route S7: Warsaw \u2013 Gda\u0144sk and measurement station 14612 between Kazu\u0144 and \u0141omianki:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12761 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/14612a-1024x420.png\" alt=\"daily traffic \" width=\"1024\" height=\"420\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12763 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/14612b-1024x418.png\" alt=\"weekly traffic \" width=\"1024\" height=\"418\"><\/p>\n<p>Warsaw \u2013 Bia\u0142ystok and measurement station 14625 between Radzymin and Lucyn\u00f3w, road S8:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12744 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/b-1024x419.png\" alt=\"daily measurement\" width=\"1024\" height=\"419\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12742 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/a-1024x419.png\" alt=\"weekly measurement\" width=\"1024\" height=\"419\"><\/p>\n<p>Road S8 - Warsaw \u2013 Katowice and measurement station 10618, Tomasz\u00f3w Mazowiecki bypass:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12753 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/10618a-1024x432.png\" alt=\"daily traffic\" width=\"1024\" height=\"432\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12755 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/10618b.png\" alt=\"weekly traffic\" width=\"1104\" height=\"452\"><\/p>\n<p>A4 Highway: Wroc\u0142aw \u2013 Rzesz\u00f3w and measurement station 12602, Krak\u00f3w bypass:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12757 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/12602a-1024x419.png\" alt=\"daily traffic\" width=\"1024\" height=\"419\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12759 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jetline.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/12602b-1024x419.png\" alt=\"weekly traffic \" width=\"1024\" height=\"419\"><\/p>\n<p>Wroc\u0142aw \u2013 Zgorzelec and measurement station 02601 between Legnica and Krzy\u017cowa, A4 highway.<\/p>\n<p>I left this measurement point for last.<br \/>\nIt's located on the approach to border crossings with Germany in Zgorzelec and Olszyna, not on a route between major cities. Due to international traffic restrictions, the decreases here were the largest (64%). Currently, the traffic level at this location is 61% of 2019 traffic.
