The fifth edition of the Need for Street Festival took place on 26\/10\/-\/27\/10\/2013.
\nThe event took place in the largest printing plant of the Polish People's Republic
\nnamed DOM S\u0141OWA POLSKIEGO. The post-industrial space and its history
\nexcellently contrasted with the interactive creations of contemporary design. <\/p>\n

The festival was divided into two distinct parts. The first day
\nwas dedicated to the FASHION AND DESIGN FAIR, and on the second day, it was possible
\nto visit the TECHNOLOGIES IN ART exhibition.
\nIt is this second part of the festival that we will focus on. <\/p>\n

The exhibition tour began traditionally. Right at the entrance, posters
\nand utility graphics entertained and surprised the viewer, drawing them into debate
\nor prompting thought. Below, we present one of them. KEEP IN SHAPE,
\nis a graphic from the Artkiosk collection. The carcass hanging on a hook
\nis, in a sense, a symbol of human belonging to the animal world.
\nThe graphic suggests that we should take care of our form and not turn
\ninto a piece of fatty meat. It also draws attention to the duality
\nof human nature. More works by young artists working in
\nthis field of design can be seen at artkiosk.net.
\nThere you will find works by designers from Poland and Berlin. <\/p>\n

An alternative to traditional poster creation techniques is the use of
\nfluorescent and phosphorescent paints (glowing in the dark),
\nas well as self-adhesive fluorescent papers.
\nPosters for the exhibition
\nIN THE DARK were made using the screen printing method. When darkness falls, they affect visitors
\nwith a magical green light. The space surrounding the graphic becomes
\na black background in this case. Nothing disturbs the viewer's perception.
\nThey are left alone with the image. Posters that glow
\nin the dark would be ideal for outdoor advertising,
\nespecially on roadsides where artificial lighting is lacking. <\/p>\n

Also noteworthy is the use of stereoscopy in photography.
\nIt is an imaging technique that shows reality from different
\npoints of view. Paul Cezanne started from a similar premise
\nin his work. As part of the festival, the
\nSTEREOSCOPIC PHOTO PROJECT took place. Anyone interested
\ncould stand in front of three lenses and receive an animated GIF
\nin their inbox. The photographs were taken by Sebastian Szwajczak, among others.
\nWorks by this photographer and examples of stereoscopic technique

A large part of the exhibition was occupied by interactive installations, mapping,
\nanimations created with graphic software,
\nprojected onto 3D objects, abstract, spatial forms
\nand onto... a Toyota car. The Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology
\npresented its works, including videomapping.
\nThe membrane, a touch-sensitive fabric, also looked beautiful.

The 3D Printing Zone, increasingly popular in Poland, also enjoyed success.
\nSince 1986, continuous work has been underway to improve it. The stereolithography (SLA) method, patented by Charles Hull, initially served only
\nfor prototyping and was the beginning of spatial printing.
\n3D System then developed the STL file format, still used today.
\nUsing this file, 3D printers receive instructions. <\/p>\n

Today, just like the well-known British journalist (Slater), we can print shoes
\nfrom plastic in 25 hours, weapons, everyday items, architectural
\nmodels, toys, etc. This technology is also successfully used
\nin medicine, for the production of prostheses, among other things.
\nThe technology for creating designer items
\ncould be seen as part of the festival.
\n3D printers use materials such as:
\necoplastic (PLA), plastic used for producing Lego bricks (ABS),
\nwood composite (Laywood), nylon. This offers many possibilities
\nto create a unique product in a very short time. <\/p>\n

The whole was complemented by the HOUSE OF HORRORS - a game using mapping, the AUGMENTED REALITY ZONE, which showed the Warsaw of the future,
\nusing iPads for visualization, as well as a large wall of multimedia projections.<\/p>\n

There were also graphic workshops and good food.
\nAll that remains is to congratulate the organizers and creators of the NEED FOR STREET festival,
\nAgnieszka Celej, Julia Szostak, and Kinga Lusi\u0144ska.<\/p>\n

And we eagerly await the next edition of the festival.
