Our company's office (Jet Line) and foundation (Fundacja Rejs Odkrywców) is located at 34 Wojska Polskiego Avenue in Żoliborz. It's a beautiful place. Laid out in the 1920s, this avenue was the widest street in the city before the war. Over a kilometer long, with two monuments – the Monument to the Armed Deeds of American Polonia and the Monument to the 1st Armored Division (with more monuments planned), it's probably best known now for its... phenomenal Breakfast Market.

We all unanimously agree that we have the most beautiful office, if not in the world, then at least among those we've worked in so far.
Our neighbor, at number 40, is a building where on September 19, 1940, Captain Witold Pilecki allowed himself to be arrested. He voluntarily joined a Nazi roundup and then, in the Auschwitz concentration camp, organized an underground resistance movement within the structure of the Union of Armed Struggle - Home Army. In April 1943, Captain Pilecki escaped from the camp, served in the Kedyw of the Home Army Headquarters, and fought in the Warsaw Uprising. He was murdered on May 25, 1948, in the prison on Rakowiecka Street.
There's a plaque on the building commemorating this event. The plaque will soon be replaced with a new one; the work is currently in progress.
Until yesterday, the building's facade looked like this:

Sometimes it happens that we don't notice something right under our noses. You know, it's darkest under the lamppost. But finally, we realized how much this graffiti-covered facade was bothering us. We decided to do something about it.

We wrote an email to the Mayor of Żoliborz declaring that we'd be happy to join the group of caretakers for this place and that we'd try to improve the condition of the facade. We also pledged to fund a planter for live flowers.
At that time, we didn't know that the plaque would be replaced with a new one soon. The next day, the Mayor's spokesperson, Mr. Andrzej Kawka, contacted us. He introduced us to the building administration, connected us with the designer and manufacturer of the new plaque, and informed Andrzej Pilecki, the captain's son, about our plans. We got the green light, so...

So we immediately told Father Adam Gołębiak, the director of the Youth Educational Center on Odsieczy Wiednia Street in Warsaw-Anin, about everything. We're in constant contact because boys from this center sail with us on the Explorers' Voyage and to participate, they work as volunteers (it's one of the conditions for joining the voyage). We asked for help and a few days later...

Then there was a break because the weather turned bad and it became dangerous...

... but yesterday the boys returned to the task.

Today, May 20, the facade looks like this:

The facade is cleaned and painted. The frames of the basement windows and the electrical panel have been refreshed. The antenna is still there (but we have permission to remove it and we'll do it soon). A new plaque is being made, as well as a planter, which we hope will be placed - with ZDM's permission - on the sidewalk under the plaque.

Boys - Dominik, Rafał, Paweł, Mariusz, Michał, Andrzej - thank you very much for your help, good job.
Dear graffiti artists, if you feel like scribbling somewhere, please: spare this facade.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
