Optimistic Traffic Indicators on Routes

Natężenie ruchu

Few people remember today, perhaps few even want to remember, what Easter looked like last year. There was a travel ban in effect then, which we wrote about here.

How did vehicle traffic look during the recent Easter holiday, Easter last year, and in the last 'normal' year 2019?
This is best shown by traffic volume data published by GDDKiA (General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways).
Let's look at the following chart:

holiday traffic

The restrictions implemented during Easter 2020 resulted in lower average daily traffic and very large differences compared to the current year. Traffic volume in 2021 was 231% of the traffic volume from 2020, and we're getting closer to the 2019 level.
This year's holiday traffic was 32% lower than in 2019 (while comparing 2019 to 2020, the difference was as much as 74%).

The situation is therefore optimistic.
We are much closer to the 2019 figure than to the 2020 figure.

The results for commercial traffic, which can be linked to the state of the economy, look very good. The data shown in the chart indicates a 10% increase in traffic volume in 2021 compared to 2019.
Traffic in 2020 was 18% lower than in 2019.

The report was prepared using data from 32 automatic traffic measurement stations located on national roads during the Easter periods:

April 19-22, 2019
April 10-13, 2020
April 2-5, 2021

The values in the charts refer to averages from all stations. More information can be found at https://www.gddkia.gov.pl/pl/a/41109/Ruch-na-drogach-krajowych-w-czasie-epidemii-Kolejny-tydzien-i-kolejne-dane
