Large and Close or Smaller but a Bit Further
Sometimes we encounter the question "Why are your highway billboards not only smaller
than the competition's, but also positioned further from the road?"
The simplest answer would be: because this complies with the law and industry standards
and facilitates the implementation of effective communication campaigns and advertising campaigns. Why are Motorway 12x4 m billboards the best choice for highway campaigns? To answer in detail, several topics need to be addressed.
Advertisement format
The 12x4m format is one of the standard formats in use in Poland.
At Jet Line, we have over 400 billboards in 12x4 m format – 300 of them are positioned on routes
between cities. The entire network forms an evenly designed system that allows for building nationwide advertising campaigns.
Large advertising is very attractive, while the formats offered to clients are very diverse, e.g.: 30x20m, 36x12m, 30x10m, 24x8m, 15x6m, 15x5m, 12x4m, 4.6x1.6m, 3.5x1.2m 18x8, 18x6, 12x8, 30x5, 9x6, 9x4m, 12x11 m, 18x8 m, 25x11m, 10x12m.
In campaign implementation, choosing a uniform format/formats and positioning locations is very important.
Construction height
The standard for Motorway 12x4 m construction is placing the advertising panel at a minimum height of 12m above ground level – thanks to this, the advertising poster is perfectly exposed.
In the case of constructions positioned at ground level, the advertising decoration often blends with the background
and every smallest fence, bush, sign causes the advertisement to be obscured, as do oncoming cars
.
Visibility
Motorway 12x4 m billboards are positioned in precisely selected locations, most often on road curves and elevations – so that people driving in cars can see the advertisement directly in front of them for a certain period of time. The angle of the advertising panel is adjusted to the observer moving along the road, which increases reception effectiveness.
In the case of scaffolding, location selection is mainly based on where the given medium will fit. A construction with two parallel advertising surfaces means that one of them is not positioned at the proper angle in relation to the road.
Lighting
All Motorway 12x4 m billboards are illuminated, and we are also conducting research on alternative ways to power the billboards with electricity.
Only a small portion of highway scaffolding is illuminated.
Those that are illuminated usually have lamps only above the top edge of the advertisement, which causes
uneven light distribution and poor advertisement visibility.
Production costs
Motorway 12x4 m billboards are adapted for displaying decorations made on bbs paper
or on fl vinyl.
Scaffolding constructions are only adapted for presenting decorations printed on vinyl
with blackout. Choosing decorations made on regular vinyl means that the sun shines through the decorations,
and the entire construction is visible on the advertising poster. The difference in printing cost between 1m2 of bbs paper and 1m2 of vinyl with blackout is eightfold. Taking into account the larger advertisement format,
the difference in production cost can be dozens of times higher.
Exhibition aesthetics
Motorway 12x4 m are mostly galvanized constructions with metal panels on which the decoration is mounted. Thanks to this, the advertisement is displayed on an even surface, resistant to weather conditions – e.g., wind force, which can damage, deform or destroy decoration on scaffolding.
Sometimes, to prevent the decoration from bulging or being pressed into the scaffolding depending on wind direction,
holes are cut in the advertisement to reduce air force. Whether this is a desirable solution for brand image, similar to fencing scaffolding with barbed wire – I leave without comment.
Construction legality
Motorway 12x4 m billboards are legally positioned constructions.
What about scaffolding? Probably varies. However, it can be stated with certainty that all constructions positioned at distances from the roadway edge other than those provided for by
the Public Roads Act, are positioned illegally. Here's how these distances are defined:
30m – for highways in built-up areas;
50m – for highways outside built-up areas;
20m – for expressways in built-up areas;
40m – for expressways outside built-up areas.
Close to the road sometimes means therefore - illegally.
Whether the issue of legal operation is important – for me definitely yes.
